Using wild plants as biofactories for human protein production for better sustainability & efficacy

Nowadays claiming naturality is not enough to get away with sounding “sustainable”.

LipoTrue’s approach regarding sustainability in the manufacturing process can be defined as the products and processes’ design, planning, monitoring and controlling in this step in such a way that enables LipoTrue to identify and assess the flow of potential environmental waste with the objective of maximising resources efficiency and reducing the environmental impact.

LipoTrue provides innovative products of high quality and technological value following the green chemistry principles and inherent safety applied. They base these principles across their technology platforms.

Their “Wild plants as biofactories” technology uses Nicotiana benthamiana, Australia’s most scientifically famous native plant.

N. benthamiana is a plant model system for the transient expression of high purity peptides and proteins in a non-GM system.

In-vitro transcribed mRNA is introduced into the leaves and translated into human protein by the natural plant expression system.

As opposed to recombinant production by Gram(-) bacteria which may contain endotoxins, synthesis of proteins in plants allows to obtain safe plant-based biotechnological ingredients with proper modifications and high activity.

Controlled-environment agriculture:

- Protected greenhouse

- Optimisation of water, energy and space (indoor vertical farming)

- Controlled temperature, light (LED) and ventilation

- No pesticides

- Recycling of used soil (sterilisation for use in conventional crops or gardens)

Green Chemistry:

- Water consumption reduction and recycling after treatment for irrigation and agricultural & industrial purposes

- Waste management improvement: reduction and recycling

- Energy consumption reduction

- Protein synthesis optimisation: less energy, resources and waste

Col-Frag remastered™ is a type I collagen fragment produced in Wild plants as biofactories. This sustainable technology allows to obtain a molecule identical to a fragment of the human collagen type I sequence, with the proper post-translational hydroxylations required to be fully functional.

Col-Frag remastered™ acts as a building block and booster for collagen synthesis, and tightens the dermis and epidermis while preventing senescence. It revealed a synergistic effect and a superior efficacy to Ascorbyl Glucoside in reducing wrinkles, providing a facelift and enhancing skin brightness.
